There are a lot of good reasons why I prefer working for a job posting/ HR communication agency rather than for a job board itself: I have a bigger choice when I recommend sites, I can argue more objectively, I can criticise openly. All this is really wonderful.

However, as an agency, working with career portals can be a bit annnoying from time to time. This is why I am posting a “Short Instruction Manual for Job Sites for a successful co-operation” today:

  • Agencies intend to bring new customers to job sites. Benefit from this and treat them well.
  • Please stop outsmarting us by contacting our clients behind our backs in order to provide them with better conditions. This is called price-dumping and will do harm to the whole online recruitment industry.
  • Do NOT send invoices to end customers!
  • When an agency expresses a request for a proposition, please give at least the following information: price per posting, any helpful additional advice, agency discount, payment terms and conditions (I know that sounds like basic logic but I have made all sorts of experiences that have shown me that this is not part of a standard reply procedure).
  • Agencies are clients to job sites. They even can turn out to be very important ones. So please give us all relevant information concerning the portal (i.e. price changes, special offers, further interesting products, etc).
  • If there is anything you do not understand in the process or in the vacancy text, talk back to us before you post the job ad. Making the end customer happy is all about doing it correctly right from the start.
  • If you encounter problems during the posting process that delay the publication, please notify us via email. Keeping customers informed about troubles in realtime is a constructive way to prevent a bad image and negative publicty of your site.
  • In other words: do your job properly so that we can help promote your portal across the globe :-)
